Assignment 3

 My Time Diary

This assignment was a very intersting/ eye opening experience in my opinion; I was responsible for monitoring how frequent/ how long I used social media throughout the day(s). Luckily I have an Iphone 11 that has a built in app/ widget that monitors my overall activity while I'm on my phone. For this assignment, I chose to monitor my activity on Instagram and Snapchat since these are my personal favorite social media platforms to stay up to date with everything.

    So first off,I wanted to give you my overall average time on social media before I go from platform to platform. In total I was averaging about 11hours and 11 minutes a day. Individually between Instagram and Snapchat I had 9h 52 minutes for Instagram, and 2h 19m for Snapchat (Over the past 4 days)I realized that I used it most often during the weekends from 7PM -3 AM on my Iphone 11. I noticed over the last few days that I tend to get on these platforms more frequently when I was either bored, watching sports, gaming, and music clips/ videos, or If I was communicating with a friend(s) or significant other. I personally prefer Instagram as my go to social meida platform because, I have alot of family members and friends that I like to keep in touch with. And I also enjoy watching content geared towards stuff that I like or just general life hacks.

    I don't think that school gets in the way of my time when it comes to social media. I honestly feel like it hinders my productivity in all aspects during my daily activities. After conducting this study, I feel like this has given me a reality check to figure out how I can use social media for entertainment/ communication purposes while staying focused and efficient throughout the day. I might incorporate a system in my phone that monitors how long I've been using a platform and allow it to alert me when it's time to get off.

    I really enjoyed this assignment overall due to the fact that I have poor time management which can hinder me from getting alot of other stuff done throughout the day. I really put things into perspective about how often everyone else uses social media and how the could use that same time and invest towards a more productive source and potentially receive a better yield of return on their time.
